Cardiff University has been awarded £300,000 by NHS Charities Together through its Workforce Wellbeing programme in Wales to support the expansion and enhancement of the Canopi mental health support service during 2026/2027.
This investment will help strengthen Canopi’s established support for NHS and social care staff across Wales, delivering sustainable service improvements while increasing equity of access, ensuring more people can access timely mental health support when they need it.
Key benefits of the funding
The funding will support several important developments within the Canopi service, including:
- increased therapy capacity to help reduce waiting times and strengthen Canopi’s ability to provide early intervention for individuals experiencing mental health concerns
- improved engagement with communities that are traditionally underrepresented in mental health services, including men and people from global majority backgrounds to raise awareness, reduce barriers to access, and encourage more people to seek support when they need it
- specialist training for therapists and doctors in men’s mental health and culturally competent cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
- continued development of an inclusive and equitable service that meets the evolving needs of the NHS and social care workforce across Wales
This funding represents an important opportunity to strengthen the Canopi service, helping ensure NHS and social care staff can access mental health support that is responsive, inclusive and accessible
